An early Colonial gentleman's washstand, red cedar, early 19th century, cedar and pine secondaries with ink inscriptions under drawers in Chinese. Anglo and Georgian in design this rare piece poses more questions than answers. It is well documented that the Chinese presence in Australia can be traced back to the first years of the 19th century and cabinet making was amongst their known trades.
