JOHN De BURGH PERCEVAL (1923-2000), Self portrait, pencil, signed "Perceval" and dated "79" at left, 40 x 49.5cm. Perceval's sketches and caricatures often challenged the conventional concept of beauty. In this case, the pimples or freckles seem to have been his primary focus, as they appear to have escaped the face, and are also floating in the air at left. One imagines he was having lots of fun at his sitter's expense.
