RUDOLPH W. UNGER (Germany, South Australia, 1846-927), carved panel in frame, circa 1900, Australian timbers, 84 x 64cm (overall). Unger arrived in Australia from Germany in 1883. He was in business with his sons in Adelaide between 1900 and 1904, and later on his own account until 1916. He is represented in the Art Gallery of South Australia, and a blackwood book chest incorporating a panel carved by him was presented to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1901.
