SIR JOHN & LADY JANE FRANKLIN antique porcelain plate by Copeland & Garrett with embossed lotus design, hand-painted birds, blossoms and family crest. Sir John Franklin served as the Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land from 1837-1843. Franklin had a long and illustrious career serving in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars as well as the War of 1812, but most notably known for his third and final expedition, which was an attempt to open a route through the North West Passage
