1856 Sydney Mint Type I gold Sovereign. This coin was recovered in 2014 from the wreck of the SS Central America after it sank 1857 while sailing to New York. This 1856 Sovereign along with a 1855 Sydney Mint Sovereign were the only 2 Australian coins recovered from the wreck at a depth of more than 7000 feet. In total more than 3000 coins were recovered from the wreck inc 82 foreign, the balance being US coins. Slabbed in PCGS USS Central America commemorative folder along with a small quantity
