31 · 1878 Australian Team to play in England: original albumen photograph of the team (9 x 11.5cm), mounted on printed backing with the names of the team members and marketed by W. Harvey Barton, Photographer as part of his "Sixpenny Series". While the image is in very fine condition there is considerable foxing to the mount.

He turned out to be correct, of course, with Hawthorn defeating St.Kilda in the Grand Final by 7 points in front of a crowd of more than 118,000 people. Extremely scarce.

Having lost the semi-final to Hawthorn the previous week, St.Kilda had to face Richmond in the preliminary final. In front of a crowd of over 102,000 they won the match by 30 points, only to be defeated...

396 · PREMIERSHIP EVE "WEG" POSTER: Friday, October 6, 1972 original WEG poster depicting the finalists, RICHMOND and CARLTON on the eve of their Premiership match with the admonition "READ ALF BROWN" at base. Extremely scarce; only the second example we have offered. [Carlton won the match, 28.9 (177) to 22.18 (150), with more than 112,000 people in attendance.]

Predominantly German sprtsmen and women, this series also includes Henry Robert Pearce (Australian), "Bebe" Didrikson (USA) and Matti Jarvinen (Finnland).
